An Al-Qaeda leader, Abu Akash, was killed in an airstrike on Friday by a suspected CIA Predator drone in Pakistan's lawless North Waziristan tribal area bordering Afghanistan, according to Pakistani intelligence officials.

While officials spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, there was no official confirmation of whether Akash was alive or dead after the missile attack on a house believed to be his hideout in the village of Eswari, two kilometres from the town of Mir Shah. The airstrike killed 21 people.
