U.S. Hospitals Save Canadian Lives
August 26, 2009 by Robert Lee

After Windsor Ontario resident Michael Vujovich suffered a blockage in his heart last April, he was taken by ambulance to Windsor Regional Hospital. Problem was he needed an emergency angioplasty, a surgery not currently done in Windsor, and unfortunately the nearest Canadian Hospital that does the surgery is in London Ontario, a too long of drive to risk the patients life. The good news for Vujovich is that Windsor has partnered with Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital, and 2 hours later he was already out of surgery on his way to recovery. Meanwhile Vujovich remains happy with the system in Canada, He says the U.S. hospital saved his life, and he still did not have to pay the bill due to an agreement that the Canadian Government picks up the tab on such emergency visits.
